Moron Moose Goes To Summer Camp
This summer I'm teaching at an arts summer camp here in the city. There are three different sessions running from June to August, we just capped our first session today and this first group of kids were a lot of fun. By "we" I mean myself and my co-teacher Poopy Lickles (yes, that's the man's name--check the website). We did the summer camp last year and did such a bang-up job that they asked back for more. I never would have imagined working with a fellow named Poopy, but we make a good team and I think the kids get a whole lot out of their two week sessions. Aside from teaching them the core fundamentals of cartooning we try and have them work toward a goal of a finished product, which is generally a Zine of collected strips from the class.
The zine also gives me an opportunity to flex my cartooning muscles with one of Poopy's excercises (ooo..that sounds wrong...let me rephrase that). Poopy has this uncanny knack for coming up with great cartooning excercises. One of them involves two paper bags filled different slips of paper; in one bag are subjects and in the other are actions. The trick is to pull out one of each and come up with a comic. The scenario I picked was: "Moron Moose" & "Becomes a Spy" Below is the comic; Above: the cover to my own Zine.
