The Great Flood

Things are starting to get crazy now, as I feverishly try and wrap up Kid Beowulf and the Song of Roland. I’m penciling and inking the final part (20 pages to go!) and just finished a sequence I wanted to share. This takes place at the mid-point in the final part, when Ganelon’s evil plot starts to crumble. He learns that the resistance has been using the catacombs to get around the city and is currently sheperding all the citizens out of Paris before the Saracens arrive. In a last ditch effort to regain control, Ganelon orders the catacombs flooded!

I tried something new with the layout of this page and wanted to use the page gutters as actual “gutters”–so I’ve drawn the streams of water througout to convey the massive amounts of water filling up the tunnels. Click the image for a larger view…
