Comic-Con 2008 Preshow Post
July 23, 2008, filed under: News, by Lex
Tomorrow night (and the next 4 days thereafter) you can find me at Table P15 in the Small Press area of the largest pop-culture event this year: the San Diego Comic-Con! This will be my 5th year at the show, and even though there are plenty of other people who have been going to the con a lot longer than I have, I feel like a seasoned vet all the same. I know the ins and outs of the place: the DC booth always has the best carpeting for achy feet, you don’t want to cross a grumpy ELITE officer 5 minutes to closing on Saturday, and most important of all, I know where they park the X-Wing.![]()
I’ll be tucked away at my table, selling my books, seeing some stalwart Small Press friends, and happily flashing my exhibitor badge whenever a line starts to form. Of course, the big item I’ll have on hand this year is Kid Beowulf and the Blood-Bound Oath. It makes its official debut at SDCC, so this is your chance to grab a copy and let me sign it for you! The other surprise I’ll have at the table is the newest Kid Beowulf sculpt:
Beowulf himself! These are limited edition resin maquettes, sculpted by Pam Drucker and hand-painted by yours truly.
Pam outdid herself this time around, and Beowulf will join Hama on the table. Each sculpt comes either painted bronze ($15) or full-color ($25) and with a swanky little box too.
Finally, on hand will be the newest Kid Beowulf book trailer: The Prologue to Kid Beowulf and the Blood-Bound Oath. The Prologue is my own retelling of the BEOWULF story and opens the graphic novel (naturally). Big thanks, as always, to master graphics manipulator Brian Kolm for helping me put this together (he also did the wonderful watercolor work). For those of you unable to make the con, I’ll post the trailer here:I doubt I’ll be able to do much blogging while I’m at the show, but when I come across a fun moment, a great photo opportunity, or just some general musings, I’m going to send them to the Bowler Hat Comics site where they’ll post the feed as it happens!
