Running With The Bulls

I just finished penciling and inking a sequence that’s been rattling around my brain since Kid Beowulf began and I wanted to share the pages. Once I decided Beowulf and Grendel would one day get to Spain I wanted to figure out a way to incorporate the famous “running of the bulls” that takes place in Pamplona every year. Over the years the scene has taken on lots of permutations in my head, but I finally figured out a way to make it happen organically in Kid Beowulf vs. El Cid. The ink is fresh and I haven’t laid in dialogue yet, but it all starts when the hapless heathobards, Emer and Ermlaf bump into the boys in Pamplona and, well, old hatreds die hard. Little do they all know that there’s also trouble brewing outside the city gates and running bulls and charging horses do not mix…(click to enlarge).
