March 17, 2010, filed under: Roland, by LexHopefully these short previews of Kid Beowulf and the Song of Roland continue to whet your appetite as the book’s debut inches ever closer (16 more days)! The following passage is our first introduction to Roland, who is living as a street urchin in Rennes and happens to steal from the wrong person. Million Dollar Baby
March 11, 2010, filed under: News, Roland, Studio, by LexJust when I thought I wouldn’t have much to blog about this week, I come across this odd bit of news: apparently Kid Beowulf and the Song of Roland is listed for sale on Amazon for $999.00! Act fast though, because there’s only one copy left (it’s being sold from a reliable seller–97% positive–and it’s in “acceptable” condition). Now some of you may think that’s a little pricey, but consider the first appearance of Superman (Action Comics #1) just sold for a cool million and a short time later, Batman’s first appearance (Detective Comics #17), sold for 1.5 million. $999.00 is a steal! You can order right now, while operators are standing by…
(For you cheapskates out there, rest assured we’ll have plenty of copies in 3 short weeks selling for a bargain basement price of $17.95).
Song of Roland: Sneak Peek 4
March 5, 2010, filed under: Roland, by LexKid Beowulf and the Song of Roland is teeming with so many characters that sometimes I forget about my leads (thankfully they’re in the title, so that’s a helpful reminder). In the following scene we rejoin Beowulf and Grendel as they continue their march toward the heart of Francia. They are still being followed by the dastardly Heathobards, Emer and Ermlaf, and it’s here, in Aachen where the two finally make their move! (click to enlarge)
Kid Beowulf and the Song of Roland: locked & loaded
February 27, 2010, filed under: News, Roland, by Lex…and off to print! That’s right, after five long years Kid Beowulf and the Song of Roland is done. Finito. All sewn up. Finished. Concluded. Stuck a fork in. This week I signed off on the final design and layout of the book and my publisher will be shipping it off to the printers today. It’ll be another few weeks before the actual book is in my hands, but it’s a huge relief to know that I’ve gotten this little French monkey off my back. And even better to know that it’s actually pretty darn good!

Here are just some of the nice things people are saying:
“With Kid Beowulf, cartoonist Alexis E. Fajardo combines a wonderful sense of whimsy and high adventure into a totally captivating and enjoyable series. Great fun for young and old readers!”
–Jeff Lemire, Essex County and Sweet Tooth
“Alexis Fajardo has a breezy cartoon style with idiosyncratic character designs, and crystal clear storytelling. This book actually made me interested in Beowulf, and even J.R.R. Tolkien couldn’t do that! A fine addition to any comic collection, or library.”
– Jimmy Gownley, Amelia Rules!
“Earnest and sometimes irreverent, Alexis Fajardo adapts the Charlemagne legend as others have for centuries: by affectionately combining history, myth, and imagination to create a worthy new tale. Curious readers may just find themselves inspired to give the world’s great epics another look.”
– Jeff Sypeck, Becoming Charlemagne
“Middle Ages adventure meets all ages-fun. Alexis Fajardo mixes history with folklore to create a wonderful tale.”
–Frank Cammuso, Knights of the Lunch Table
Thanks for reading the advance copies guys! The rest of you will have to wait until April 1st at WONDERCON to pick your copies (or you can preorder on amazon).

On Christmas Eve he posted a nice piece on Kid Beowulf as well as a glowing early review of Kid Beowulf and the Song of Roland. For those of you who may have missed it the first time around, you can read the piece here.

Song Of Roland: Sneak Peek 2
December 11, 2009, filed under: Roland, by LexThe following scene is an early introduction to Charlemagne’s Peers. They’re en route to meet Charlemagne at Rennes, a city besieged by Saracens.
